BERLIN (AP) — Authorities in Germany and the Netherlands are looking for as much as 270 delivery containers misplaced at sea by a cargo ship caught in a storm, saying some are carrying hazardous supplies.
German authorities say the cargo ship that misplaced the containers landed within the German port of Bremerhaven early Thursday.
The Central Command for Maritime Emergencies stated six containers thus far have been sighted in German waters, whereas greater than 20 have washed ashore within the Netherlands or are drifting off the Dutch island of Terschelling.
German authorities say not less than one of many containers is carrying natural peroxide, a flammable and extremely poisonous compound.
Authorities within the Netherlands have warned the general public to steer clear of the containers.
