Gisela Fulla-Silvestre works in movie rating sound design, and that mood-setting tendency leaks over into the fractured pop songs she makes as NOIA. The New York-based musician has one EP to her title to date, 2016’s Habits, and subsequent month she’s placing out one other four-track assortment known as Crisàlida, which is the Catalan phrase for chrysalis.

At present, she’s sharing its first single, “Ausencias.” It’s atmospheric however intimate, crackling and popping like an icicle. Chiming synths and a persistent backbeat and, additional in, rusty trumpet sounds present a backing for Fulla-Silvestre’s slip-sliding questioning, which boils all the way down to an overarching query: “Do I would like you or do I need to be you?” Hear beneath.
