For File Retailer Day, Gibbard launched a brand new 7″ titled The Swift Periods consisting of two beforehand unreleased tracks that he recorded with Swift, “Me And Magdalena” and “The Idea.” The previous, a tune Gibbard initially wrote for the Monkees, has made its method on-line. (The latter, presumably an alternate model of the Teenage Fanclub music Gibbard recorded when he coated Bandwagonesque in full, has but to floor.)
The Swift Periods is one of some tributes to Swift which have popped up since his loss of life, together with a 7″ sequence known as The Fug Yep Soundation that includes the likes of Dan Auerbach, David Bazan, and Swift’s former Shins bandmate James Mercer. That sequence additionally included Damien Jurado, whose new album In The Form Of A Storm grapples with Swift’s remaining days.
Gibbard had this to say of his launch:
All of us who knew and liked Richard Swift are nonetheless reeling from the loss. Fortunately, he left us with a big physique of labor to recollect him by.
